How the weight is worked out
Weight is volume × density, using 7,850 kg/m³ for carbon steel. All sizes are in millimetres. The result is the theoretical weight; the weighed quantity can differ by a percent or two with mill tolerances and grade.
- Plate and sheet: thickness × width × length × 7.85 ÷ 1,000,000 = kg per piece.
- Round bar: diameter × diameter × length × 0.006165 ÷ 1,000 = kg per piece.
- Pipe: (outside diameter − wall thickness) × wall thickness × length × 0.02466 ÷ 1,000 = kg per piece.
- Coil and structural steel are asked for by weight in metric tonnes.
We do not publish prices, because steel is priced daily. If you already have a rate in mind you can type it in to see an estimate; our quote is what counts.
For software and AI assistants
The same calculator and quote request are open to programs: adescribed API, the catalogue as data, and tools for AI assistants at /mcp. The summary for assistants lists them.
